RAINBOW BAN CALL Mum ‘devastated’ after housing bosses order her to remove rainbow painted by daughters on wall for the NHS
A mum was forced to take down a rainbow painted by her daughter for the NHS after it was deemed against the rules by housing bosses.
Lauren Boswell, 27, was horrified when her housing association said the mural, made by her daughter and little sister, had to be taken down.
The family wanted to give doctors and nurses travelling past their house to the Queen Alexandra hospital in Portsmouth, Hants, something to smile about.
Lauren said her daughter Alanis-Star, two, and little sister nine-year-old Mia who painted the mural were devastated at the thought they might have to wash it off.
The mum-of-one said: “It was so upsetting.
"The girls love it and they would be devastated if it had to come off.
"I'm disgusted, the girls' wanted to create it because we live on a main road where a lot of NHS staff drive past everyday so it was meant to show them how well they are doing."
Housing chiefs CT McCann sent Lauren a text demanding she remove the mural because she had not asked for permission.
The text read: "We have been made aware and have seen your rainbow sign on the wall outside the property.
"We understand it's for the NHS to show your support, but you should have asked us before any paint or writing on the property wall.
"I kindly ask you to remove this from the wall as soon as possible and place pictures in your windows instead."
But the association later relented after they were contacted by The Sun and have now allowed the family to keep their artwork, which was made using child-friendly paint.
Boxes of chalk have even been delivered to neighbouring houses for children to create similar drawings.
A spokesman for CT McCann said: "It appears there was some confusion and miscommunication.
"We have advised the tenant the rainbows look fantastic and should remain.
